Key takeaways

Houseplants have many functions in both the home and the office. They are decorative, smell nice, bring life to a room and satisfy our needs to nurture something. As well as this, however, they are also relatively easy to look after and bring benefits both to our health and mood. In this way, they are absolutely a must-have for the modern woman.  2020 is for crazy plant lady!

Houseplants are easy to look after

Assuming you do not somehow purchase a rare and endangered plant from the depth of the Amazon rainforest, then houseplants can be relatively easy to look after. All they need is the right amount of water, the right amount of light and some TLC.

It is literally that simple.

Some plants, though, are even easier than that such as the humble cacti. These hardy little plants don’t need watering everyday so their maintenance is super low-key, especially for those who have busy jobs and so can’t stick to a regular watering schedule.

Here are some pretty easy plant breeds which are not too strenuous to look after:

  • Aloe
  • Lavender
  • Spider Plants
  • Succulents
  • Cacti

Good For Your Health

It has been proven across a number of studies that houseplants are good for our health. By adding plants to your home or office space you can effectively purify the air and reduce in the number of toxins and allergens in it.

All the way back in 1989 the NASA Clean Air Study found that certain common house and indoor plants can provide an effective way of reducing volatile organic pollutants, such as benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene. The study showed that some plants were certainly more effective at removing these pollutants than others. The most effective plants included species such as English Ivy, Peace Lily, Bamboo Palm and Florist’s Chrysanthemum, but the list is not just limited to these plants.

Good For Your Mood

Plants can help improve your mood in several ways.

First and foremost, and this perhaps goes without saying, they look nice. It may seem like a simple thing but having a plant which is colourful and full of life in your house or office can help to make you feel brighter, happier and more alive. Alongside this, it can also make your house feel more like a homeless of a four-walls box but a space that is lived in and loved.

The routine that can come with caring for a plant can also be good for calming anxiety, grounding you and reducing stress. By looking after another living thing we are provided with a focus and an aim for our activities, we also feel proud when our little plants blossom or grow bigger.
