In this post I am going to be chatting about the best London spots to get work done. If you are like me, then sitting in silence in an office or library is the worst way to get work done. They say silence is deafening and that couldn’t be more true when all you can hear is the tap of your own keyboard.
Personally, I like to go to coffee shops and pubs to get work done. I just grab a table near a plug socket so my laptop can stay charged, and I am sorted for the foreseeable next 5 hours! It is something about the buzz of a space filled with people that attracts me. I feel I can get more work done and to a better quality than in a non-quiet environment..
If you work in London then you have a plethora of coffee shops, pubs, micropubs and bars at your fingertips. Here are some of the best London spots I use to get work done. Some of them are also worthy of an Instagram shot.
Best London Spots to Get Work Done
The South Bank
South Bank, London
Yes, I know the South Bank is ultra tourist-y but who can argue with a bustling, commercial location? If you are looking for somewhere with a ‘vibe’ to set your laptop up or pull out some revision then the wide variety of bars and restaurants along the South Bank makes for a great choice.
If you are looking for something familiar then the South Bank boasts a range of chain restaurants and cafes including, Giraffe, Pret-A-Manger, Yo! Sushi, Wagamama and Las Iguanas.
A personal favourite of mine, though, is the Foyer Café at the National Theatre. It is situated on the ground floor of the National Theatre. The café serves coffee, teas, freshly made cakes and sandwiches all with a riverside view of London. With opening hours of 9:30am to 7:30pm you can easily get a whole days work done.
Tate Modern
Bankside, London
For most people, the Tate Modern is known for ‘out-there’ modern art, most of which you could spend days trying to analyse and still not get a straight answer. However, amongst all the art the Tate Modern is home to a number of great espresso bars and cafes. The Viewing Level Bar in particular has great 360 views of London.
If you arty-minded then the Tate Modern is a great spot to check out. Its famous artistic history and location in the centre of London means it is the perfect place to check out some art.
The Barrel Vault
King’s Cross, London
Who doesn’t love a Wetherspoons? Cheap food, cheap drinks and refill coffee and tea all day? What is NOT to love? Across London there are plenty of Wetherspoons but The Barrel Vault really is a bustling and busy one. Located in King’s Cross St Pancras, it is always filled with people coming and going, either waiting for a train or having just arrived.
Regardless of what time of day you visit this Wetherspoon there are always business people, families, tourists and lone travellers. In this way, it’s a great location to lose yourself in. The buzz of the atmosphere is a great environment to work to as it is always busy and vibrant.
The Theatre Café

Like Muslims journeying to Mecca, The Theatre Café is a place of pilgrimage for theatre fans everywhere. Located in the heart of London’s West End, the café’s walls are adorned with theatre memorabilia and signatures of famous theatre stars. The best way to describe it is as the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory of the theatre world.
If you are a theatre fan then this is a great place to come, enjoy a coffee and get on with whatever work you need doing. Its centralised location means that no matter what time you visit, there is a great buzz in the air. With people bustling past the windows and patrons coming in and out for coffee, it is the perfect London spot to get work done..
