Food makes you happy and that’s a fact. Emotionally, physically and mentally, what we put into our bodies has so much to do with what we get out of them. In doing that, we all know how boring health foods can be. Byt, there are plenty that are wholesome, satisfying and completely delicious and will leave you wanting seconds, thirds and maybe even fourths!
Health foods don’t have to be boring
We know, that sounds like it’s either not true, or going to take a lot of work before the meal is edible. Well, that’s wrong on both counts – health foods can be both interesting and easy to prepare. Feast your eyes and tastebuds on the following…
Smoothie Bowls
The heroes of Instagram often come in the form of smoothie bowls. Yes they might look like the healthiest things since vegetable Buddha bowls, but trust us, these are as tasty as they are beautiful. There are so many different variations of the smoothie bowl that they’re pretty much impossible to hate. Power up with banana and oat or detox with a mix of the deepest and reddest berries. Toppings are up to you and they’re a great way to pack in your 5-a-day.
Salmon
If you love seafood, salmon is probably in your top 3 fish choices. It’s such a versatile meat that provides endless Omega 3, good fats and brain food. Experts recommend that eating fish every week makes for a healthy brain and salmon is a filling and hearty option. Tray-bake salmon fillets with a selection of vegetables or slice them into strips for a healthy take on fish fingers.
Tacos
Poor tacos have a bad reputation in the health world, as does a lot of Mexican dishes. Often famed for their Americanized fast-food dupes, Mexican food is all about fresh protein, colorful veg and explosive flavors. Pack soft corn taco shells with tomato salsa, grilled fish and guacamole for a clean and nourishing favorite.
Hummus
Naturally moreish, chickpea hummus is easy and delicious way to snack or to eat as a starter before your meal. Making it yourself is so easy that once you try it, ready-made hummus will be forever off the cards. All you need is a tin of chickpeas, a few cloves of garlic and a dash of olive oil. Get stuck in with raw vegetable sticks and warm, wholemeal pitta bread.
Soup Noodles
The classic Asian dish takes many different forms. Whether it’s ramen or pho, noodles in broth are a fool-proof favorite. Making your own vegetable, meat or fish broth is a really healthy way of eating up goodies that are super flavorsome too. Add in fish, meat or tofu and pack lots of veg in to make it look and taste incredible.
Pancakes
Unfortunately, we don’t mean souffle pancakes, Dutch pancakes or crepes. Instead, we mean the healthy version that honestly tastes just as scrumptious. A simple egg, oats and banana recipe is a sure-fire crowd-pleaser so feel free to stack ‘em high. Pour on a handful of berries and maybe a splash of agave nectar and you won’t be able to tell the difference.
Zucchini Pasta
Who knew that spiralized courgettes could be so delicious. This healthy alternative for pasta is really the next best thing and you can even have double the amount. Fold through green pesto and chopped-up sun-dried tomatoes or cover in beef ragu with a sprinkle of Parmigiano Reggiano.
